It has 1,240,000 square feet (115,200 m²) of retail space. The mall was conceived in 1973 with construction completed in 1978. The first anchor tenants were Montgomery Ward, Sears and Joskes. Law/Kingdon was the original architect. In 1985 an expansion section opened with Macy's and Mervyn's as the two new anchors. Macy's remained there until it was sold to Dillard's in 1997. Foley's built its store in 2005 and the mall had a Macy's store again after the Federated-May merger in 2006. The mall's anchor stores are Dillard's, JCPenney, Macy's, Sears, and a large-scale Forever 21 (in the former Mervyn's space).
